The Process
INITIAL CONSULTATION
Depending on your location an initial consultation fee may be charged, local appointments would be free.
During this first meeting I will be able to discover your needs and ideas and also get a good understanding of the space to be addressed. I will give you a fixed fee for all stages of the design process and will probably sketch out some premiliminary ideas – these sketches very often form the backbone of the finished design.
SCALE MASTER PLAN OR 3D MODEL
If you choose to proceed with the design process, it would be your choice whether to commision a hand drawn (coloured & textured with computer graphics – Photoshop) scale plan or to have the design presented as a 3D computer model (Sketchup). Examples of both can be seen above.
A scale plan with annotations and sometimes cross- sections is often more suitable for relatively flat gardens. It is a more traditional approach and for some people this is preferable. Planting will be shown in a general sense without specifying particular plants.
A 3D computer model will generally be more suitable for sloped gardens with steps & levels or in gardens where a structure such as a garden room is planned. It would be presented as a series of views, along with a scale plan (of the model) and cross-sections as necessary.
The model itself can also be viewed by downloading a free Sketchup Viewer app. Again, planting would be shown in a general sense.
These options can be explored in more detail during the initial consultation.
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
If construction details are required, for example for anything non-standard or unusual, then an additional charge would be added to the master plan / model fee.
PLANTING PLANS
Detailed planting plans showing location, numbers, species, genera & cultivars can be produced on scale plans to suit your tastes and preferences as well as reflecting the soil, aspect and position of the plants. I will, in general, choose plants that are relatively easy to source, as there are very many plants, although beautiful, which are hard to come by.
